BRING YOUR OWN BABY COMEDY

The Lowry, Salford Quays

WE all need a laugh from time to time – especially when you’re sleep-deprived and spend most of the day splattered with puke and mashed banana.

Bring Your Own Baby Comedy returned to The Lowry to give knackered mums and dads a daytime giggle with no need for a babysitter.

The show was quieter than the sell-out launch back in September which saw comedy star Jason Manford grace the stage.

But the laughs were aplenty thanks to host Carly Smallman, the hilarious Jen Brister and the very rude Robert White, who ramped up his material a notch or 10 from his Britain’s Got Talent runner-up routine.

There were laughs of agreement when Jen, mum of four-year-old twins, admitted she no longer fantasises about far-flung exotic holidays but of being Lenny Henry in the Premier Inn adverts.

The comics perform their usual adult material, so there is a 12-month age limit – good job they couldn’t understand Robert White’s routine.

Robert, who describes himself as ‘the only gay, Aspergic, quarter-Welsh comic on the British comedy circuit’, came second in this year’s ITV show Britain’s Got Talent.

There were lots of funny jokes, not suitable for broadcast, that would’ve gone down particularly well at a night-time gig with a large G&T or two in hand!

BYOB Comedy is a fantastic idea, set up by Carly and Funny Mummy aka Alyssa Kyria who have created a fun space where new parents can come and have a chuckle where fussy babies and poonamis are par for the course.

Guests are invited to whip out a bum (the baby’s please!), a boob or a bottle and there is also soft flooring, toys, buggy parking and baby changing available.

I hope the ladies return to The Lowry with some more comic talent in the future and carry on giving laughs to mums and dads across the country.
