WE all have our favourite restaurants, but sometimes you need to whet your appetite somewhere different.

So it was that we pitched up in Whalley to sample the delights of the Trishna Indian tandoori restaurant, which stands in the heart of the village in King Street.

And suffice to say, we have now another top choice to add to our list.

The Trishna chefs produced a meal full of flavour and it was served to our table with attention to detail and efficiency by at least three waiters, so it was piping hot.

Even the poppadums were mouthwatering. Light, fluffy and crisp, they came with a choice of accompaniments, including a rare pot of coconut, which is a personal favourite.

Then for me it was onion bhajis, which were crisp with no hint of grease, while my dining partner opted for mixed kebab, which was pronounced a tasty meal in itself.

It’s at this point that I usually start thinking I’ve already eaten my fill and worry about being able to even start the main course, but happily — and this doesn’t happen in a number of Indian restaurants — there was a gap before the next course arrived.

I had gone for chicken tikka, which was served with onions on a sizzling hotplate, with fluffy boiled rice and a vegetable curry, which combined for a mouthful of flavour.

My companion chose lamb pasanda, which had a hint of red wine and a swirl of cream to finish, accompanied by white pilau rice.

With a couple of rounds of drinks, the bill was just short of £40 for two.

While the food was top notch and the service attentive and courteous, if I had a niggle, there seemed to be something missing from the atmosphere.

Maybe it’s just that the restaurant wasn’t full that night, I don’t know.

But you do create your own ambience, so we will certainly be back.

WHETHER he was trying to "curry" favour for something I've not yet found out, but when my other half offered an evening out at an Indian restaurant, I didn't turn him down.

After a hard week at work, it's refreshing to join the Saturday night-outers enjoying a nice meal and lively chat in a friendly eaterie.

On this occasion, we headed for the Trishna, on Whalley's main street, which has a good name for the quality and choice of dishes.

After poppadums and chutney, it was onion bhajis as a starter for me, even though I am always full of determination to try something else.

But it was a good choice again. They were crispy and packed full of onions, while my partner's mixed kebab was spot on too, sizzling, flavoursome and tasty.

Neither of us enjoys hot, spicy dishes, so for our main courses, we opted for a mild lamb surayha, with banana and coconut and chicken pasanda, which is cooked with wine and you could certainly taste it and a swirl of cream.

The lamb was well cooked and melted in the mouth. I've had tussles with lamb at other restaurants before now. Both dishes were served with white pilau rice.

The one criticism I have is that both main meals weren't very warm.

With a round of drinks, the final bill came to £37.50.
