Lancashire Telegraph review by Jason Kayley from September 23, 2008.

I’M a man of simple pleasures.

And when I go out to eat, my needs are simple — good food, good beer, nice atmosphere and good value for money.

And I know that when I pop into the White Bull, in Oswaldtwistle, that’s what I’m going to get.

Situated at the top of New Lane, just opposite the picturesque Immanuel Church, it’s a very pleasant place to dine.

There is an eating area built onto the pub so there’s a nice view venue in which to eat and good access to the bar area.

The menu gives a reasonable amount of choice of what you would expect to find.

Among the main meals on offer are gammon and sirloin steaks with a curry option and a chilli dish as well as a selection of sandwiches, wraps and jacket potatoes.

I went for the steak and ale pie, and my partner, Michelle, went for vegetarian lasagne. My son, Isaac, had a mini portion of sausage and new potatoes.

My pie was great. The beef was succulent and the puff pastry was light and crispy.

The homemade chips were tasty as well and the vegetables were cooked and presented nicely.

The lasagne seemed to score a hit as well and Isaac’s clean plate, which included a healhty portion of my vegetables, would suggest my eldest enjoyed his tea as well. He certainly made short work of his ice cream!

My only criticism would be a lack of real choice for vegetarians, which is a problem whenever we dine out. But what was on offer was very tasty.

And at £17 for three mains and a dessert, you can’t grumble.

The White Bull also has themed nights on Thursdays which are well worth a look.

Overall, a very nice place to eat and enjoy a meal.

The verdict
At £17 for three mains and a dessert, you can’t grumble.
