Lancashire Telegraph review by Jane Willis from September 30, 2008.

I never saw the sea from the Sea View and I’m not sure if the new Buckshaw development has blocked the Blackpool coastal scene from eyeshot altogether.

But you can still see for miles from the pub’s Preston Road entrance and on a warm weekend day it was a lovely location for a bite to eat on the way home from Chorley.

The pub had an “olde worlde” feel inside although the decor and carpets looked tired and grubby with too much chintz.

The menu boasted “home-cooked food” and I was glad to see I wasn’t paying for the privilege in the price.

Despite a handful of tempting dishes I opted to skip the starter. My daughter went for her usual cheese garlic bread. The dish was five garlic bread slices loaded with cheese that she loved. I pinched a slice but found it a bit soggy.

For my main meal I went for a hearty steak and ale pie with chips and veg while the young one went for a chicken dish.

Loaded with steak, the pie was a triangular slice served with home-cooked chips and garden peas with lashings of gravy.

Although nothing special the generous portion was warm and tasty enough. I doubt the chef had made the pie from scratch and there was probably more warming-up than ‘home-cooking’ but for under £6 I couldn’t complain.

The daughter wasn’t impressed with her chicken finding it a bit tough. I had a nibble and it was on the chewy side, not to our liking.

But there was plenty of menu options for all as well as a good range of draught and bottled alcoholic drinks and soft beverages.

Food and surroundings aside my only real gripe was the chap behind the bar, “Mr Grumpy”, who hardly smiled and seemed put out to give me a VAT receipt or a straw from behind the bar. He even missed asking us how our meal had been when doing the table rounds. Not good practice.
