Situated on the A6, and just off the M61, the Hartwood's two for one menu gets its fair share of passing trade.

The popular pub and restaurant is one of the biggest in Chorley, and is often busy, particularly for evening meals and Sunday lunch.

And that is little surprise considering its excellent two-for-one menu, which offers superb value.

Despite its hectic location the Hartwood is an old-fashioned building with a traditional and welcoming interior.

The Hartwood offers an extensive menu, from a wide selection ranging from pub grub classics to lighter snacks and vegetarian options.

For our meals one Saturday lunchtime I chose the deep filled steak and ale pie, whilst my partner went for one of the lighter lunchtime meals, a cheese and bacon burger. Both meals were served with chips and a side salad.

Considering the two main meals cost a total of less than £8, the food that arrived was pleasantly surprising.

The steak and ale pie was one of the biggest I have seen, and the pastry was certainly deep-filled, while the "lighter" burger would have catered for most lunchtime appetites.

For pub food, the meals were particularly tasty, the steak in the pie was much more tender than in many other cheaper alternatives, and had a melt in the mouth feel that left me wanting more. The burger was cooked to perfection, with the cheese melted enticingly in between the bacon and burger.

The chunky chips that accompanied both meals were well-cooked, while the side salads were well stocked and fresh.

The Hartwood offers a fairly standard wine list for a pub, but has only a small variety of draught beers, ciders and ales.

For anyone looking for a filling, tasty meal, whether it be for lunch or in the evening, then the Hartwood certainly offer good value, especially for families.
