A POPULAR baker who has had sell-out success since opening her shop has launched her own range of ice cream.

Creative Isabel Maidens opened Isabakes in Rawtenstall in March, and has done a roaring trade ever since – growing a loyal local customer base while also enticing people to travel hundreds of miles to come and sample her wares.

Her new business has proven so popular that a feature wall was recently created inside the shop, allowing people to log how far they had travelled to visit the Ormerod Street shop.

And now the 22-year-old has unveiled a new product she has high hopes for – her very own ice-cream range.

Named Iceabakes, the 16oz tubs of ice-cream will come in a range of flavours – including cookies and cream.

Ms Maidens said: “[We] have spent the past few months taste testing, sorting packaging and designing the labels. We are also hoping to stock in a few local shops.”

Formerly of Finch Bakery, Ms Maidens branched out on her own last summer, launching her new business from the kitchen of her family home.

By March the former Haslingden High School pupil had decided to take the plunge and open her own store, selling out of all her treats on the first day – and on many other days since.

Speaking about the map wall, Ms Maidens said she was inspired to add the feature after she started getting visitors from as far afield as Scotland and Wales.

She said: “We thought it would be a nice touch – its amazing how people have come from far and wide!”

Last weekend alone several new faces were added to the map – including people who had travelled from Newport, Clapham, Harrogate and York.

Posting on Facebook the baker said: “Oh my word! So many new faces on the map from this weekend! Our first international one for the wall too. Thank you to everyone that visited.”

Isabakes is open on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays with an ever-changing menu.Throughout the week Miss Maidens and her team will continue to bake treats for the postal orders.
