“I wasn’t trying to get noticed I was just enjoying making music. Music though was my second choice. My first choice was medicine “But if someone gives you an opportunity to sign to a record label, you take it!”

As the Asian Urban scene with colleagues Rishi Rich and Juggy D took-off, Jay started seeing a growth in his music career.

“I couldn’t walk around cities on my own. Fans would be like ‘Oh my god! You’re the new guy’ and that made me think I’ve actually got fans but that thought was a little crazy’.

His first independent album ‘My Own Way’ was a massive success. But was his ‘Ride It’ video that seemed to make US executives stand-up and take notice.

Signed by Cash Money Records in 2009, the artist then went onto become the first British male urban star to have a number one single in the US with ‘Down’ featuring Lil Wayne.

Now, Jay Sean has gone back into making his own music with a new and independent record label. With the new song ‘Tears in the Ocean’ which expresses his everlasting love for R&B, Jay makes a connection with the fans that grew to love him.
