LEGENDARY figures from the music scene, the best in jazz and a unique insight into one of the world’s most famous incidents all form part of the Grand in Clitheroe’s autumn season which has just been announced.

The Ribble Valley venue has quickly established a reputation for bringing top quality names and the new line-up continues that trend.

Leading the way is singer Ruby Turner, who featured prominently in the Queen’s Jubilee Concert in the summer and makes a welcome return to Clitheroe on Wednesday, September 26.

Other big names include Georgie Fame, one of the leading figures in British rhythm and blues for more than 50 years, first with the Blue Flames and as a solo artist and latterly as part of Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings and Van Morrison. He will perform on Saturday, November 7.

The following weekend, double Grammy-winning guitarist Albert Lee brings his band Hogan’s Heroes to the venue.

Other great music includes one of Manchester’s most influential bands, The Chameleons, playing with former Icicle Works frontman Ian McNabb on Saturday, November 17 and original member of the Jam, Bruce Foxton bringing From the Jam back to Clitheroe for a third consecutive year.

Folk lovers have plenty to look forward to with a show by Jackie Oates, one of the rising stars of the British folk scene who has also worked with Show of Hands, and a visit by Nick Harper, son of Roy Harper.

A special blues double bill will see Preston’s The Stumble sharing the stage with Kyla Brox on Friday, September 28.

There are also two shows for Irish music fans with first Brendan Shine on Sunday, November 11 and then The Fureys on Wednesday, November 28.

Jazz is not forgotten either with Paul Rigby and the Northern Jazz Orchestra paying tribute to trumpeter Maynard Ferguson on Sunday, October 21. One of the more unusual offerings sees diver Rory Gordon introducing Return to the Titanic, a two-part 80 minute presentation that covers the story of the search, discovery and dive to the world’s most famous shipwreck in this, the centenary year of the ship’s sinking.

With numerous other events, the Grand has a full programme until Christmas. For details, contact the Grand box office on 01200 421599.
