HUNDREDS of brass and swing lovers are expected to descend on Blackburn on April 9 as ‘Singing Swinging Brass’ makes a return to King George’s Hall.

The annual event, now in its 15th year run by The Rotary Club of Accrington, will feature the renowned Leyland Brass Band and The Rossendale Ladies and Male Voice Choirs for a night of traditional brass alongside swing and other pro classics.

Highlights include The Leyland Brass Band performing Le Corsair by Berlioz and Malaguena by Knowles. They will also perform Breezin’ Down Broadway by Goff Richards and William Tell by Rossini.

Rossendale Male Voice Choir will perform Luck be a Lady, There is Nothing Like a Dame and The Lord is My Shepherd amongst other famous songs.

And the Rossendale Ladies Choir will be belting out their version of Adiemus, Didn’t it Rain, Bridge Over Troubled Water and A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square.

Event organisers are hoping to attract 700 music lovers and are hoping to raise more than £3,500 to be split between Derian House Children's Hospice in Chorley and Life Education charities, established by Rotary to help prevent children becoming addicted to alcohol and drugs.

The Leyland Band are a brass ensemble, featuring members from all over the UK, Norway, Australia and Luxemburg. Since they formed over 60 years ago they have won national awards for All England Masters Champions, Brass in Concert Champions and British Open Champions.

While Rossendale Male Voice Choir and The Rossendale Ladies have both played across the UK and across Europe.

Geoff Tattersall, event co-ordinator said: “Singing Swinging Brass provides a great night out for the whole family filled with the best music Lancashire has to offer.

“The lively sound synonymous with traditional brass has drawn music fans from across Lancashire in the past and we expect this year to be no exception.

“The evening is also a perfect excuse to show our patriotism pre royal wedding as we will be selling Union Jack flags for people to wave through the finale.

“We are hoping to attract a lot of families to the event. I think there is something for everyone to enjoy.”
