4pm-7pm - Free health checks are on offer at Darwen Health Centre. Nurses from Blackburn with Darwen PCT will be carrying out assesments of blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes for anyone aged 35 to 74 registered with a Blackburn or Darwen GP at the centre in Green Street.

6pm - Rev Trevor Vaughan will share memories of his early days as a minister, and his boyhood in West Craven, at the Rainhall Centre, Barnoldswick, at a free talk.

10.30am-12.30pm - Help is on hand for residents in Pendle who have yet to fill in their Census 2011 form. Colne library staff are offering support to anyone who wants to use a library computer to fill in the census online or to complete the paper version.

10am-3pm - A farmers' and local produce market is being held in Market Place, Ramsbottom.

11am - Cellist Clare Rowe, of the Halle Orchestra, and pianist Paul Janes, from the Royal Northern College of Music, are the next featured artists at St Peter’s Church in Burnley.

11am - Volunteers are wanted for a ‘flashmob’, at Morrison’s, Nelson. Pendle Leisure Trust and Ludus Dance are behind the event.

11am-3pm - A guided four-mile walk around Gawthorpe Hall in Padiham will be led by a countryside ranger. Sturdy footwear is essential and bring a packed lunch. It costs £2 for adults and £1 for children.

7pm - The latest instalment of Clitheroe Grand's quarterly acoustic showpiece Acoustic Village features two regional acts with a special guest headliner. Tickets £8.

8pm - An extra large soul night takes place at the Rolls-Royce Leisure Club in Barnoldwick. The Skipton Road club is abandoning its usual soul night on the fourth Friday of the month and will instead host one main event. It will feature guest DJs Ian G and Jools Metcalfe. Admission is £5 on the door. The usual soul nights will return in May.

Sunday, April 10

10am-2pm - Bacup Golf Club is holding an open day for budding players. The club is offering a chance to play holes with a member, a tour of the clubhouse and a coffee.

11am-4pm - Swimmers will make a splash for charity when they complete a Swimathon at Padiham Leisure Centre. Padiham is one of over 580 pools taking part the 2011 Swimathon for Marie Curie Cancer Care. To enter or call 0845 3670036.

1pm-3pm - Jazz sessions are to start at The Admiral Lord Rodney, Colne, after Al MacSween – Ruby Turner’s regular keyboard player – signed up to front a session at the Waterside venue. Al is originally from Pendle and has played with musicians such as Gilad Atzmon and Omar Puente of Buena Vista Social Club. He will be joined by double bassist Alex Davies and drummer Joost Hendrickx, who complete the Soapbox Trio.

7.30pm - Colne Orchestra members will turn back time at their spring concert when they play a selection of popular music from the 1940s. They will wear military uniforms and fashions from the era to recreate the atmosphere of wartime Britain. Guest performers will be the Swing City Big Band. Monday, April 11

2pm - A history of one of Burnley's longest-running charitable concerns is set to be launched at Gawthorpe Hall. A team of writers has been working on the life story of the Council for Voluntary Service in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale. The epic project began with a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and rounds off a series of events for the CVS landmark anniversary. Following months of research a book, an exhibition and an updated website are the fruits of their efforts. Officials and volunteers from the organisation, based in Yorkshire Stret, Burnley, have been invited.

2pm - Chairman Barry Kilby, defender Clarke Carlisle and ex-Clarets including Jimmy McIlroy, Frank Casper, Stan Ternent, Brian Flynn and John Francis will be on hand at the club to sign copies of Dave Thomas's book Entertainment, Heroes and Villains, which covers the story of Steve Cotterill, Owen Coyle and Brian Laws at Turf Moor. 1.30pm - A procession will wind through Whitworth town centre as part of the town's St George's Day celebrations. Setting off from the corner of Market Street and Tong Lane it will end at the Riverside at around 2pm. It will be immediately followed by a service of celebration, featuring live music and a performance of the Pace Egg play by the Curtain Theatre Company.

9.30am - A women's network group is opening a new branch in Burnley. The Pink Link Ladies, which has bases in Blackburn, Preston, Lancaster, Chorley and Blackpool, will be run in Burnley by Catherine Curry. It is being launched at the Higher Trapp Hotel, Trapp Lane.

Thursday, April 21

7pm - A meeting about plans for a gay pride festival in Burnley takes place at Guys as Dolls. The idea to hold East Lancashire’s first such event was floated earlier this year and more than 200 people have now joined a Facebook group supporting the idea for a festival this summer.

Saturday, April 23

1pm-8pm - A festival to celebrate St George's Day will take place in Colne. The free family event featuring music and entertainment will run in the town centre. There will also be fairground rides, face-painting and donkey rides to keep children entertained.

12.45pm - A 'The Parable of the Bridesmaids' service, led by Andy Williams, minister at Sion Baptist Church, takes place at Burnley and Pendle Faith Centre, Barden Lane. Soup and rolls served.

Friday, April 29

SOLDIERS from the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment will play a one-off football match against AFC Darwen to raise funds for the Army Benevolent Fund. The match will be held at The Salmoners' Anchor Ground and features local soldiers who have recently been on tour in Afghanistan. It is hoped there will be a series of guest appearances on the night. Admission will be £5 for adults and £2 for pensioners and children up to 16. Organisers are also looking for raffle prizes for the event. 8pm - A smash-hit show fresh from sell-out gigs at London's O2 Arena is set to take Motown fans in Pendle by storm. The Magic of Motown show recreates the harmonies, slick moves, stylish looks and legendary musicianship Motown is renowned for.
