AS a band you had some magificent highs, topping the charts and playing to sold out stadia around the world.

Then there were the usual ‘musical differences’, with members falling out and leaving before kissing, making up and returning to the fold.

But after all the ups and downs, you’ve managed to come through relatively unscathed and are ready to celebrate 30 years in the music business.

And what does ITV go and do? Well, if you are Duran Duran, you get Christine Bleakley inflicted on you. On Sunday night, One Night Only was a celebration of the Eighties’ band who spawned a whole generation of followers.

And many were out in force in the audience. The teenage Durannies may have become mums but they were in their element, dancing along as though at the ultimate wedding reception.

Meanwhile Ms Bleakley, who really should come with her own set of subtitles, gushed mercilessly, urging us all to ‘give it up’ for the boys from Brum.

Why someone who was at primary school when Duran Duran were in their pomp was chosen to present the hour-long tribute show is a bit baffling.

Perhaps TV bosses have realised that Daybreak alone does not warrant the massive ‘transfer fee’ they paid to get her from the Beeb.
