STEP back in musical time with Harry Christophers and The Sixteen at Blackburn Cathedral on June 5.

They are celebrating their 10th Choral Pilgrimage, which takes them to cathedrals across the country to showcase music written for these grand settings, dating back to the Renaissance and Baroque periods.

Music for the Tudors will feature works by three major composers from the era – John Sheppard, Thomas Tallis and William Byrd, described by conductor Harry Christophers as ‘exceptional works by any standard’.

These composers lived during periods of religious turmoil in mid-16th Century England and expressed – in different ways – their devotion to the Catholic faith.

The programme includes Byrd’s ‘revelation’ Infelix ego, Sheppard’s ‘staggering’ Media vita in morte’ and Tallis’s ‘gem’ Miserere nostri.

Mr Christophers and members of The Sixteen will host a 30-minute ‘encounter’ before the concert, where they will talk about the music they will be performing on the night.

Harry Christophers and The Sixteen perform at Blackburn Cathedral on Saturday, June 5, at 7.30pm. Tickets £12/£20, concessions half price.
