A LONDON-based swing band which has accompanied legendary wartime signer Vera Lynn is to perform in Pendle.

Five Star Swing, recognised as one of the most accomplished jazz and swing bands in the UK, will play at The ACE Centre in Nelson on Friday, May 21.

The band recently performed with Vera Lynn at her Charity Ball at the Imperial War Museum in London.

Former Ivy Benson musician Simone Smith and her husband, Chris feature in the show which boasts a host of classic big band swing songs from artists such as Frank Sinatra and Glen Miller, through to Jools Holland style jazz.

Chris said: “I’ve been brought up with this style of music, my father played trombone for Frank Sinatra on his European tours”.

The band featured on National TV for the BBC’s Children in Need fund raiser and were runners up of ITV’s Strictly Dance Fever.
