Doctor Who is back and the 11th Time Lord, played by Matt Smith, has already made the role his own.

I had thought that no-one could improve on what TV genius Russell T Davies had done with the much-loved sci-fi series.

But razor-sharp dialogue, a revamped Tardis and logo and a little bit of tinkering with the theme tune, not to mention a feisty female companion Amy Pond, played brilliantly by Karen Gillan, shows what can be done when a new director takes the reins with writers not afraid to push the barriers.

The second helping of the Weeping Angels two-parter delivered some cracking jump-out-of-your-skin moments, worthy of any horror film.

The one minor criticism I have is I really would like to see a few different alien creatures in this series.

I know they have spent the budget on designing the costumes and need to get their money’s worth, but we have seen the angels before.
