THERE are some people who just have it, the ability to give the look'.
Jeremy Paxman is perhaps the best example. When faced with an inane answer to a question he doesn't need to say anything the look' says it all.
So if Paxo is the king, then may I put forward the High Priestess of the Quizzical Eyebrow, Ms Sarah Beeney.
Returning to Channel Four last night with a new series of Property Ladder, the divine Ms B who rather disconcertingly seemed to be in various stages of pregnancy throughout the programme had plenty of opportunity to look askance at the antics of her would-be property developers.
Anyone wondering how you make a point with the minimum of effort and without resorting to shouting would do well to watch the Beeney in action.
"Buying a house blind at auction is not a good idea," she told one couple.
It didn't sound too harsh but you could see them visibly wince on the screen.
Then there was Marigold and her partner. They decided to ignore every piece of advice they were given, spent £10,000 on a flash home entertainment system when they were already way over budget and eventually managed to overspend by £80,000.
The look was flashed on several occasions, paticularly when the couple said they wished someone would have warned them about the mistakes they were making.
At this point the eyebrow shot up so fast it nearly hit the expensive light fitting.
One day the couples will realise Sarah knows best.
