JAMIE Oliver, aka the Pukka Chef, used to really get on my nerves.

But this week I really missed my weekly helping of his American Road Trip.

There is just nothing to replace or even compare to it now and it’s been a rather disappointing week all in all.

Come Dine With Me is about all I can hope for to learn some little cookery traditions from different cultures. I’m surprising myself by saying this because I’m a very new Jamie fan.

Pre Jamie’s American Road Trip I thought he was a little bit too cocky and was getting far too much praise for reminding us all about nothing more than common sense, dressing it up as his own innovative ideas.

Eating vegetables and not fast food is better for children, and drinking water is healthier for us than fizzy drinks . . . well, tell us something we don’t know!

So when I heard about his show I wasn’t rushing to tune in. But it was advertised as a culinary journey of a lifetime so I couldn’t resist.

And after six weeks it’s not only been a brilliant informative watch, it’s also converted me into a true Jamie fan.

I’ve been well and truly sucked in by his charms, too — I’ve even gone out and brought the accompanying book.

Bring on another series I say.
