EAST Lancashire has provided the inspiration for the character names in a new play premiering at a prestigious theatre.
Characters called Blackburn, Darwen, Nelson, Pendle, Ribble and Rivington feature in Fireflies at The Lowry in Salford.
Fireflies tells the story of Leigh and Nelson, two lonely hearts coming face-to-face with the reality of their lives, and combines text with film and computer graphics.
Set on a fictional estate somewhere between Salford and Bolton, some of the characters have evolved into fiction from people writer Kevin Fegan has known.
He said: “I decided to root the play in the North West by deliberately naming characters after place names in Salford, Greater Manchester and Lancashire."
Fireflies – A Love Story Waiting to Happen is at The Lowry in Salford from October 16 to 31. For tickets call 0843 2086005 or visit the website below.
