A TV judge from the Great Sewing Bee is set to headline a festival for businesses that want to be a force for good.

Patrick Grant, fashion designer and judge on The Great British Sewing Bee, has been announced as the speaker for this year’s B Corp Fest at Edgworth’s Wellbeing Farm on June 5.

A B Corp or certified B Corporation is verified by B Lab UK to meet high standards of social and environmental transparency and accountability.

And Patrick is known on TV and radio as an outspoken advocate for social responsibility and radical change in fashion.

In 2015, he bought the 160-year-old Blackburn clothing manufacturer Cookson & Clegg, preventing its closure

The following year, he founded Community Clothing, a manufacturers' cooperative also in Blackburn, with a focus on creating quality, affordable clothes and supporting local textile manufacturers across the UK.

At B Corp Fest, he will speak about the concept of business as a force for good. And he will join some of the country’s leading purpose-driven businesses and changemakers.

Celia Gaze, founder of The Wellbeing Farm, said: “Experience something different, there are no stuffy boardrooms here. Instead, you’ll find an immersive, dynamic, festival-style business event.

“B Lab UK’s new data on B Corp performance is a testament to the success of the movement in the UK, which is officially the largest in the world for the first time. With over 2,400 UK B Corps leading the way, it's clear that prioritising people and the planet isn't just ethical; it’s a good business choice.

With an ever-growing list of speakers, the current line-up includes:

Dr Zoe Detko, an expert in emissions reduction and founder of Ardea Eco-innovation, will explain her journey to Net Zero.

She’s introduced sustainable practices in every level of the supply chain and will show how small businesses can make a difference in tackling climate change.

Andy MacNae MP, who represents Rossendale and Darwen, will attend. He is a keen mountaineer and advocates tourism, sports, entertainment, and events.

Molly Gould, the founder of Effable will lead an interactive climate card game called The People Versus Planet. It’s designed to get you uncomfortable and help your business find its voice.

Richard Dickson, co-founder of Play it Green, will speak about how the B-Corp makes it easy and accessible for people and businesses to use sustainable and nature-based solutions to drive climate action.

Former television producer Ian Steel, owner of Atkinsons Coffee Roasters, will share his journey with ethical sourcing and transparency.

B Lab UK will give an overview of B Corp and its support for Lancashire.

Breakfast, lunch and snacks are included and refreshments will be served throughout the day.

A cocktail hour and speed networking session will also be held. And attendees can look forward to alpaca and llama experiences and exclusive goody bags.
