DAVE Grohl, the leader of the Foo Fighters one of the world’s biggest rock bands, transformed Jay Apperley’s life in a few brief seconds.

As Grohl geared up for The Foo’s hit White Limo at a secret show on the south coast, he unexpectedly invited Jay on stage, saying: ‘Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome….Me!

The cover singer then took Grohl’s place on the microphone for the three-minute white-knuckle ride from their Wasting Light album, and the tiny club in Brighton erupted.

“It might sound a cliché, but playing on that stage with Dave Grohl did change everything in my life,” said Jay who brings doppelgangers UK Foo Fighters to the Grand, Clitheroe, for their 10th anniversary show on Saturday.

“To this day, and even thought it is a few years later, I still get calls from radio stations from all over the world, each time The Foo Fighters get mentioned in the news.

“We had articles in Classic Rock magazine, Rolling Stone, New Musical Express and Metal Hammer, and a couple of hours after the show we had 11,000 Twitter followers, with messages from Australia, Latvia, Italy, Russia, Vietnam and Argentina.”

Jay, a former car dealer from Harrogate, added: “It is a night I will talk about for the rest of my life.

“I thought maybe one day it could happen, but I always figured it would be just a pipe dream.

“I’m a pretty grounded person, but I suppose I’ve become a bit of a minor celebrity since and that’s pretty weird.”

Before the Brithon gig, Apperley had sent the band a present, three crates of Monkey Wrench Ale, the official beer of the UK Foo Fighters.

“I just wanted to thank Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters, and I told him to let me know if he wanted to take a holiday – never imagining for one second that I’d be up there with them an hour later.

“They even dedicated a Foo Fighters track to us – Big Me – and I still have to pinch myself that it happened at all.”

The real Foo Fighters will headline the Pyramid Stage at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, making their first appearance at the Somerset bash since 1998.

“They’ve written some new tracks so we are going to have learn them, but they sound brilliant,” added Jay.

“We’ve played Clitheroe before and it is always a great show, so we are all looking forward to going back.”
