THE video has been set for 6pm in the Anson household for the foreseeable future.

Yes, Masterchef Goes Large is back. I honestly couldn't tell you why but this is one of the most compelling programmes on TV.

Watch it once and you'll be hooked as amateur chefs are put through their paces to try and get through to the final.

Old Masterchef has certainly moved on a bit since Loyd Grossman fronted the programme on Sunday afternoons mangling the English language in a way only he can.

The original Masterchef was pretty inaccessible stuff.

You got the feeling that the more elitist the menu, the happier Loyd and his smug guests became.

Now, however, it's a very human drama. The would-be chefs are, in the main, ordinary people, some of them exceptionally talented.

Others just think that they are and will soon get found out.

You do wonder how people get the time to play about in the kitchen to experiment with pak choi and red currant jus.

It's also interesting to see what life in a professional kitchen is really like - and once you've seen it, you then wonder why anyone would actually choose to work there.

So under the watchful eye of our two resident foodies, fruit and veg king Greg Wallace and restaurateur John (when will someone show him how to use a fork properly) Torode, there is finally an interesting few weeks ahead on BBC2.
