They are known across the world as The Illusionists and are a collection of seven of the finest magicians on the planet. Simone O’Kane spoke to the only British member, Philip Escoffey, ahead of a national tour.

SHOWCASING some jaw-dropping acts of grand illusion, levitation, mind-reading, disappearance and for the first time, a full view water torture escape, The Illusionists: Witness The Impossible is a magic show like none other ever seen before, according to Philip Escoffey.

The show has sold out around the world from Mexico to Sydney, and Manchester and Blackpool are the next places for the show to visit.

“It’s awfully exciting coming back home. As you know I am the only Brit in the group but there is nobody that I didn’t get on with.

“The language barrier was a little difficult at first, but we all just clicked. The production is immense,” said Philip who was an expert on Britain’s Psychic Challenge and presented, as well as co-wrote, the magic game show Impossible? for Channel 5.

“I have had to change a lot of things and the way that I work to fit in with the other magicians. I have really had to work hard because I often perform in intimate venues and mind reading is my thing. Because of the enormity of it I have had to adapt,” said Philip who has been travelling the world, leaving the rich and the royal intrigued.

The cast of The Illusionists comprises; Dan Sperry ‘The Anti Conjurer’, Jinger Leigh ‘The Enchantress’, Andrew Basso ‘The Escapologist’, Mark Kalin ‘The Gentlemen’, Kevin James ‘The Inventor’, Jeff Hobson ‘The Trickster’ and Phillip Escoffey ‘The Mentalist’.

Each Illusionist is a master in their own field, and with the help of a world class ensemble cast of 20 assistants, they will each perform the most spectacular, amazing acts from their hugely impressive repertoires.

“It is a mind-blowing production and we have had an excellent response.,” said Philip.

“I love what I do and I have been extremely lucky to be a part of this top-class performance.

“Travelling the world has enabled me to learn a lot and meet some interesting people. It has been an honour to be the only British performer, but combined with the others, this certainly is a must-see.”
