Since August, St Mary’s quad, which is at the heart of the College, has gradually been renovated to provide a new outside social space for the students. On Friday 15th November it was officially opened by MP Jake Berry.
The refurbishment has been fronted by senior management and the SMC Student Council. The Canopy was installed by Fordingbridge Ltd and the ground works including; stripping the Quad, painting, digging the foundations, putting in drainage and lighting was done by TSPRO LTD.
Mubarak Patel, Student Governor and president of the SMC Student Council said, “It’s absolutely fantastic that the College have provided this new social area for the students. A lot of work has been put into the design of the quad but it has been worth it.”
After the ‘cutting of the tape’ MP Jake Berry held a talk with staff and students about political affairs with a Q&A session. Jake Berry said, “It’s a fantastic investment for the future of this college.” As a token of our appreciation, Mr Berry was presented with a cheque towards his chosen charity, East Lancashire Hospice.
The opening coincided with Children In Need and student volunteers sold wristbands, cakes, drinks & stickers raising a total of £412 for the cause.
