Frantic Assembly are one of the UK's leading theatre companies who create thrilling and exciting pieces of Physical Theatre. Having toured extensively throughout the UK, Frantic Assembly has built an enviable reputation as one of the most innovative companies in the country. The company has also performed, created and collaborated in 30 different countries across the world.
One of their leading movement specialists, Steve Kirkham, worked with A2 Theatre Studies students at St Mary’s College on Wednesday 17th October to create sensational pieces of physical theatre for their examination work.
Steve took them through a gruelling warm-up to begin to instil them with real discipline. The students used a technique devised by Frantic Assembly called "describe and sign" whereby the students described each other through physical means. These "signs" were developed into complex stage maps to produce visually powerful stage images. The students were then taught a piece of choreography as a starting point for their own group physical sequence. The focus of the workshop was complete expression through an actor's body.

Student Saskia Brown, 17, from Whalley said, “I found the workshop challenging at times but rewarding.  I hope that I can pick up the techniques demonstrated by Steve in my own work throughout the year”.

Student Adam Fenton, 17, from Blackburn, said, “The Frantic Assembly Workshop really inspired and helped me to appreciate theatre in its many different forms.  I look forward to exploring these more when creating my own devised piece of coursework for Theatre Studies”.
