THE deadline for nominations for the Lancashire Telegraph’s School Awards closes on Friday.

The awards celebrate the outstanding contribution teachers, pupils and support staff make to education.

Entries are invited from parents, governors, teachers, support staff, pupils or anyone in the community who has knowledge of a particular school or individual and has been impressed.

All schools based in the boroughs of Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn, Ribble Valley, Burnley, Pendle, Rossendale and Chorley are eligible to enter.

This year there are 12 awards including a new one for Volunteer of the Year which is sponsored by Tauheedul Education Trust, which runs three schools in Blackburn.

Mufti Hamid Patel, Tauheedul chief executive, said: “This award category shines a light on those remarkable individuals who dedicate their time and energy to supporting a school, community or cause.

“There are many people giving their time freely as volunteers within schools and colleges in our communities.

“The trust is proud to sponsor an award that seeks to recognise them.”

The categories and sponsors in brackets are Lifetime achievement (Burnley College), Secondary School of the Year (Empine Print Management Ltd), Secondary School Pupil of the Year (Nelson & Colne College), Secondary Head Teacher of the Year (Electricity North West), Inspirational Teacher of the Year (Blackburn Council), Unsung Hero Award (BAE), Primary Head Teacher of the Year (Alpha Digital Networks), Primary School Pupil of the Year (First Class Learning), Primary School of the Year (OLSJ), Special School of the Year (EPSL Educational Printing), Special School Pupil of the Year (Key Stage), Volunteer of the Year (Tauheedul Education Trust).
