CROWDS of people gathered to remember their loved ones at the Rossendale Hospice Light up a Life service last night.

The memorial service took place at St James the Less Church, Rawtenstall, and saw hundreds of candles lit dedicated to loved ones who have died.

The annual Christmas event featured Christmas carols led by a brass band and a choir.

Every person who made a donation to the care facility received a personalised card during the non-denominational service. Last year’s Light up a Life event raised more than £4,100 for the hospice which is led by a team of volunteers.

A spokeswoman from the hospice said: “We are most grateful for the support we have received, for our hospice volunteers and local businesses for their support.”

A collection will also be taken at Haslingden Tesco on Friday.
