IT was a difficult one last week, but Audrey Squires was on the right tracks very quickly, spotting Padiham Road, in Burnley.

The image was taken at a time when this major main road was still cobbled and trams used to trundle along, taking their passengers between Burnley and Padiham town centres, after climbing the steep Westgate.

On the left is the Tim Bobbin pub, named after a caricaturist and satirical poet whose real name was John Collier.

He used the name Tim Bobbin (or Timothy/Timmus Bobbin) in his works which were often written in Lancashire dialect and were greatly enjoyed by local folk.

Many centuries ago the inn was a farm, whose address was Burnley Ridge but, like many other similar buildings, became a local hostelry, possibly as long ago as the 17th century.
