A RARE piece of coloured film footage has come to light, showing local pop bands before they became famous.
Shot at the Chez Nous nightclub in Skipton Road, Colne, in 1962, it features such names as Ricky Shaw and the Dolphins, with 16-year-old Tony Hicks on lead guitar and 19-year-old Bernie Calvert on bass, who later became The Hollies.
On drums is the late Alan Buck, who joined The Four Pennies.
The 35mm film was shot by a club member, 19-year-old Geoffrey Bentley, a paint sprayer.
Also shown are the Falcons, with Bobby Elliott on drums, The Manhattans, The Silhouettes and Lennie and the Teenbeats from Accrington.
Anyone wishing to see the film can contact local historian Steve Chapples on 01282 436717, who is, coincidentally, working on a biography of The Hollies and has had the film transferred to DVD.
