STAFF at Read Library are asking Looking Back readers to put them in the picture.

For three photographs, seen here, have been donated by local folk and they now want to find out more information about them.

There are no details with any of them, but it looks as though they come from at least two different periods in the history of the village.

The street scene shows houses along the main Whalley Road, bedecked with bunting and the Union Jack flying proud outside the cricket club.

The design of the single-deck bus points to the 1950s - and there's obviously not a lot of traffic on the road! - so the picture could show Read celebrating the Queen's coronation in 1953.

Is that right, or do you know better?

The group of six women and a man could also come from this time.

Do you have any idea who the people are, were they neighbours, friends, or relatives?

The group of people standing on the street corner, all in their Sunday best, is obviously from a much earlier period, probably the 1920s.

Indeed, it was before the arrival of electricity, as the street lamp appears to be gas lit.

The relaxed attitude seems to suggest these old villagers had already attended church and were enjoying the afternoon air and falling into conversation with other residents.
