A NEW book which examines the effects of World War One on the life and people of Earby will be launched on Saturday.
Earby In The First World War has been researched and written by Stephanie Carter, as part of the village’s commemoration of the war’s centenary.
Stephanie, a member of Earby Local History Society, has used letters, diaries, newspaper accounts, photographs and family memories to document the story of how the conflict effected the community.
The book will be launched at 11am at the New Road community centre and among the guests will be the Mayor of Pendle, Coun Smith Benson, alongside Peter Thompson and Ian Lambert, who have researched the names of men who gave their lives, but were missing from the Barnoldswick war memorial.
l Stephanie’s book is part of a Heritage Lottery-funded project to commemorate the centenary of the out break of the Great War, which will include an exhibition at the community centre later in the year.
