HERE’S an advert from 1965, promoting the acts on stage at the New Starlight Club in Plane Street, Blackburn.

Topping the bill during the week were The Garland Sisters, a singing duo from the radio.

Audiences who had heard them on records could see them live at the Starlight, along with Burnley soprano, Barbara Martin and bewildering Bunny Neil.

There were also performances from mime artist Alan Clarke and Peter Brent, known as Mr Personality. Two idiots at large were Knight and Daye, described as an act that went with a bang.

The club also had a casino room, where members could find all their favourite games, such as roulette, blackjack, Ascot and chemmy.

The new 77 Club in Brierfield was another branch of the business and which had a Sunday lunchtime show, featuring Lee brooklyn and Dave Cornel, with supporting artistes.
