THINK fashion and the likes of London, LA and New York spring to mind.

And while global fashion brand Boohoo group is located in all those places, the empire's hub is based in Burnley.

The Lancashire Telegraph was invited along to tour its new staff facilities — and see the huge operation which goes into getting the latest trends delivered to your door.

The Burnley Distribution Centre is the hub for all the brands which include Boohoo, Boohoo man, Pretty Little Thing and Nasty Gal.

Last year, the business invested millions of pounds in staff amenities including a restaurant, gym and yoga studio.

The hub was opened to staff yesterday and visitors were given the opportunity to see a glimpse of the staff at work and on downtime.

The investment was part of a expansion which saw construction begin on a new facility in preparation for the introduction of automatic pickers which Logistics Director Tony Burley said will boos the company's productivity.

He said: "At our peak time we receive 30,000 orders every 24 hours.

"The turn around time from payment to shipping if it's next day delivery is two hours, with automatic pickers it will go down to 45 minutes so we will be able to extend the deadline for our next day shipping.

"The automatic pickers will affect some jobs, but by the time we go fully automated we will have employed 75 engineers."

Customer service adviser Emma Tyrer said the hub is manned 24 hours a day and seven days a week to ensure they are available for their customers at all times.

The facilities were installed to give the staff a place to wind down and take advantage of the flexible shift pattern which sees many staff working three 12 hour shifts followed by three days off.

Ms Tyrer said: "Our customers are the online generation.

"We need to be available to speak to them whenever they need us.

"We are like Santa's little helpers, we just get on with it."
