WEST BERKSHIRE DISTRICT COUNCIL
(BATH ROAD, IN THE PARISHES OF THEALE AND HOLYBROOK) [TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) ORDER 2021
West Berkshire District Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make an order in accordance with Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding over Bath Road (A4) in the Parishes of Theale and Holybrook as described below:
- North-easterly (toward Reading) over the Bath Road/ M4 junction 12 roundabout
- Soutfi-westerly (toward Newbury) over the Bath Road/ M4 junction 12 roundabout
There will be lane closures on approach of each of the above for filtering purposes, along with the closures of exit and entry M4 slip roads (enabled by Highways England).
The alternative route for all vehicles affected by the Order is via (into Reading) A4, A4155, Northbound on Reading inner distribution Road, A329 (toward Pangbourne), A340 (toward Theale), and vice versa. The purpose of this Order is to enable works to take place on or near the highway, namely for Highways England to carry out traffic signal upgrades on the M4 junction 12 roundabout. The above restrictions will only be implemented as and when required, dates and times of the individual closures with their diversion routes will be advertised locally and on site when the works are finalised. It is envisaged that the closures will be in place during the hours of 21:00 to 06:00 each weekday night. The proposed Order will come into effect on 28th June 2021 and shall remain in force for a period of Eighteen months, or until the works are complete, whichever is the soonest.
The Order shall not take effect until signs in accordance with The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016 have been erected.
