JOHN BRADLEY

JOHN "Jackie" BRADLEY passed away peacefully on November 3rd, 2020, aged 91, in a private nursing home, with his loving wife, Margaret, by his side. His ever-cheerful personality will be sadly missed by children, Andrew (Kairen) Bradley and John (Audrey) Bradley; grandchildren, Laura, Emma, Matthew and Georgina, and sister, Sheila. John was known to many in the Blackburn with Darwen area due to his teaching career at St. Edwards, St. Josephs, St. Augustine's and St. Edmund Arrowsmith, from where he retired as Head of Lower School at the age of 53. He filled his retirement walking the Lancashire countryside he loved so much, journaling his favourite walks, which were subsequently published in a book, "Wonderful Walks of a Lancashire Lad." A keen sportsman throughout his life, he played football for St. Joseph's for many years in Blackburn Combination, was a member of Darwen Golf Club, and also enjoyed snooker, table tennis and match-days at Ewood Park. Sadly, vascular dementia progressively erased his memories and capabilities during the last decade of his life before succumbing to COVID-19. Funeral service will be private and donations in lieu of flowers will go to Dementia U.K. via www.gofundme.com/john039s-campaign-for-dementia-uk

I was a new member of staff at St. Edmund Arrowsmith and Jack gave me good advice. He was a great colleague and a real gentleman and a gentle soul. Some good times remembered.
