THERE are still places available for a development programme which aims to expand young people’s talents and experiences.

The Prince’s Trust is working with Lancashire Fire and Rescue to deliver the 12-week personal development course to 16 to 25-year-olds in the Nelson area.

The free programme begins on May 8.

People will experience multiple team challenges with a focus on addressing confidence, team collaboration and self-esteem.

This includes mock interviews, helping out in the community and taking part in a residential trip to the Lake District.

They will also gain a qualification in employability, community and leadership in association with Nelson and Colne College.

Lisa Roylance, programme support worker, said the course helps build self-esteem and develop youngsters so they are ready for work.

She said: “When you see what these kids have overcome and what they can achieve it is amazing.

“When you first meet them they do not like to talk in groups but by the end they have so much confidence they are writing speeches and delivering them.”
