A SILVER chalice has been stolen from the chapel of a church.
The chalice, which has a sunburst engraved in the bowl, was taken from the rear chapel at St Stephen's Church, in Cressingham Road, Lewisham, on Saturday, August 25.
A man wearing a light-coloured mac went into the church, through the front doors, and left after being watched by a worker. He then returned with a woman, and it was only after they both left the chalice was missing.
A police spokesman said: “He had already raised the worker's suspicions when he left the first time. It was strange he was wearing the mac because it was hot.”
The man is white, around 45, 5ft 8in, of slim build, with short dark brown hair.
His accomplice is white, around 45, 5ft 4in, of heavy build and wore a coloured summer dress.
