Corporation Park is in the north western area of Blackburn. Although a park, it is also the name of one of Blackburn's wards and therefore covers a wider area than the park itself.
Emma Fielding was recently appointed as the Park Warden, and has lots of big plans for events in the park and increasing the number of people who use and enjoy the facilities and views.
There is a group of people who live in the area, called the Corporation Park Supporters Group, and they are also working in conjunction with Emma to organise events.
The first being this bank holiday's 'Spring in the Park', which I would highly recommend you try to get to, between 1pm and 3pm.
The Hub on New Bank Road is probably one of the area's only community venues, and is used a lot by various groups.
It is the venue for the police PACT meetings, the council run English courses for speakers of other languages and much more.
The only thing I could think of that would improve the community would be the introduction of IT facilities. Currently there are no computers, internet or even a phoneline installed, which I think is a vital part of community - the ability to be able to contact a venue, and speak to a person there.
The people in the area come from all different walks of life and this gives the place a rich cultural feel.
The area around Corporation Park is fairly residential, and many of the houses are reasonably old. There is a very Victorian feel about the place, the buildings along the East and West Park Roads are very grand red brick structures, with bay windows and sweeping driveways.
Some have since been renovated and are used for other purposes other than living in - solicitors, housing association, the Drving Test Centre also has a home in this area.
Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School is within the Corporation Park ward and fits well into the environment. St. Mary's College is nearby also, as is St. Silas' C.E. Primary School, Coach House Day Nursery and there a number of independent Islamic schools in the wider region around the park.
