Stonehill Garden Centre Sunnybower, who are supporting "Rishton in Bloom", have kindly donated 1400 sunflower seeds. Every primary school child in Rishton was given two sunflower seeds during the first week in April - THIS IS NOT AN APRIL FOOL !!!

In the summer we hope to see sunflowers peeping over walls and standing proudly by front doors as the children all promised to take care of the seeds and see who can grow the tallest sunflower.

Children were also encouraged to keep Rishton tidy, litter and dog dirt free. All four Rishton schools are planning a creative banner to support "Rishton in Bloom" and it is hoped to make a special display of their work and also photographs of some of the pupils with their sunflowers.

This venture is being organised by a small, voluntary group of Rishton residents who want to try to create a sense of pride in the place we live.

We say we come from Rishton and we want it to be a place to be proud of, it's not everywhere that can boast a canal, a railway station, Cut Wood Park, garden areas like the corner of Parker St and The Ladybird garden on Chapel Street as well as The Esplanade and the canal flower beds.

Come on Rishtonians let's create some enthusiasm and work together for our collective good! It's not just the children who need to be involved. If you see something that could be improved or tidied perhaps you could work with a group of residents nearby to get the job done. Let us know if you need any help and we will try to arrange a volunteer's working party.

Ring 01254 883200 or 01254 723942 to get involved - Many varied jobs from planning to planting. RISHTON NEEDS YOU !!!!
