Lets take a pride in our village - come on, get involved.
Britain in Bloom judges are visiting us this Summer.
We are taking photographs to show Rishton through the seasons. We are adding floral displays where appropriate and making a big effort to clean-up messy areas. We are trying to make Rishton look beautiful - clean and tidy -a pleasant place to live. So help us, clean up after your dog and take your litter home. If you see a "grot spot" near where you live, see if you can get a group of residents to help clean it up.
We are giving every primary school child sunflower seeds to plant. Lets see how many sunflowers we can see around Rishton. We are grateful to STONEHILL GARDEN CENTRE, Whalley Old Road, Sunnybower, tel. 53110 who have donated our sunflower seeds and are offering hanging basket kits including a wicker hanging basket, a bracket, soil and 7 assorted plants at a special price of £10 (normally £15). You can place your order for this kit by phoning 01254 883200 or 01254 723942 or e-mailing scolling@dsl.pipex.com or marjon.w@ntlworld.com. Orders must be placed by 1st May and the offer price is strictly for Rishton in Bloom.
We have received a grant of £600 from Rishton Area Council to buy two Prosperity recycled plastic planters to be placed at the junction of St Charles Road and Station Road, along with hanging flower bags to be placed on various lamp columns on Blackburn Road. We wish to thank PARK VIEW LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE LTD, Park Road, Rishton who have kindly offered to donate assorted bedding plants for our floral displays.
As well as the above we wish to acknowledge Rishton Prospects Panel, Rishton and Great Harwood Soroptimists and County Councillor Miles Parkinson as well as Hyndburn Borough Council's Parks and Cleansing Depts for their help and support.
If you would like to be involved in helping with this challenge, we will be delighted to hear from you as the more people involved the better. Tell others about it and lets try to give people who live in Rishton something to be proud of.
If you have ideas or wish to volunteer, telephone either 723942 or 883200 or even better come along to our next meeting at St Peter & St Pauls Parish Church 7.30 pm 2nd April.
