Valley Aquatics Is No More

Well known tropical fish centre, Valley Aquatics, of Carrs Industrial Estate, Haslingen, has finally closed its doors. The owners blame rising energy costs and the current economic climate for the demise of their business.

Mark Thomson and Richard Hunt of Haslingden are taking part in a 100km sponsored bike ride on Sunday 31st August to raise funds for “Stepping Stones” a children’s unit in Haslingden that provides services for youngsters with special needs. Mark and Richard work at Thomson’s Hairdressers on Lower Deardengate and still need sponsors. Forms are available from the salon.

The “sculpture vultures” who stole the statue from the roundabout near Tesco in Haslingden have returned the figure. The statues were created by children at Tor View School on Clod Lane. The thieves have left a note apologising for their drunken escapade and given £50 to cover replacement costs.

There will be a warm welcome at Haslingden Conservative Club (Bank St) during the street fair on the 6th September. It will be their 140th year so they want to make it special. Lunch will be served during the day with a variety of sandwiches and soup. The ladies will be dressed in Textile costumes and there will be a grocery tombola. Admission is free with a table top sale outside or inside depending on the weather. The bar will be open.
