I DO not live in Blackburn. However, having recently received a copy of an article printed by your paper (June 17) ‘Rovers’ Catch of the Day’, I could not help but write to express my outrage at the actions of the Blackburn Rovers Football Club.
Exactly 41 years ago, two of my beautiful cats simply disappeared from the face of the earth.
To this day I am still haunted by the not-knowing what became of them. I therefore have great sympathy for any residents near the football ground who may now be in the same position.
Cats are not just companions or friends but in many instances lifelines, and not merely for the elderly.
I found it risible that the excuse for this purge was that cats were fouling the pitch.
Exactly how then would you describe the utterly disgusting habit of so many footballers of either spitting or clearing their noses on the pitch?
Cats messing up the stands. Does this imply that football supporters are squeaky clean in their habits or that they cause no problems whatsoever for local residents?
I see that at least one resident objects to the side of his/her house being used as a urinal. It’s easier, though, to put a cat in a cage, isn’t it?
It is not difficult to distinguish between a feral cat and one who is well cared for.
I agree that it helps to have a cat micro-chipped, but not everyone can afford this. Quick- release collars help too, but, as I know from experience, some felines are experts at ‘losing’ them.
To be fair to Blackburn Rovers, if they feel that they have such a problem with cats (are there no groundsmen?) then why can they not invest in strategically placed fine mesh netting or, better still, buy ultra sonic cat scarers which apparently are most effective.
