Council should rethink hall plan

I’m writing to you about ‘Hall to host new council’. I cannot imagine why the new Darwen town council should be changed twice to hold their annual meetings in Darwen town hall as we are already paying for this in our council tax etc.

The majority of the people of Darwen should not pay twice for the use of the town hall and I think they should rethink this idea, but can they agree as the first meeting this month nobody could agree on anything.

I do hope they can sort this out. I would also ask them to see if they can get something done about the main road to be resurfaced as well as streets in Darwen?

H MCLEAN, Brighton Road, Darwen.

H McLean doesn't realise that the people of Darwen have been conned.
This town council does not have the authority to make decisions on traffic management or street maintenance.
If you want a litter bin or a park bench they might manage that.

I agree with Mike from Blackburn.

Like many people in Darwen, Mr McClean has been led to believe that a Darwen Town Council would have extensive powers. It doesn't. In particular it has no powers with regard to highways.

And it is a seperate organisation from Blackburn with Darwen Council, so has to pay rent if it wants to use their facilities. In the same way it would have to if it used the Health Centre, Derwent Hall or any other building it did not own.
