On March 6th it is World Book Day and to celebrate this Foulridge St Michael & All Angels C of E Primary School is hosting a week of activites centered around books and literacy. On Tuesday afternoon parents have been asked to go in and read a story to the children, on Thursday the children are to come to school dressed as their favourite book character and on Friday it is pyjama day, where the children can go to school in their pyjamas and dressing gowns. All the activites are planned by the schools literacy co-ordinator, Miss Jo Hunt, and will link in with the Book Fair which is in school every afternoon from 3pm commencing Wednesday 5th March and ends on Tuesday 11th March, which visitors are welcome to come into school to browse and buy if they wish.
I know this sounds ridiculous but its true. Someone has taken Santa's house from the Christmas light display on Station Road, Foulridge, which had been there for the last 40 days. The house was a cover for the electric plugs and to be inkeeping with the theme was made into Santa's house with a proper slate roof and chimney. The owners are very disappointed and sad to say the least as they had done the display for the children and to help brighten up Station Road. P.C. Mark Whitehead said whilist visiting the owners " residents should take adequate precautions to protect their property " and even though the owners agreed with him they feel that even with street lighting, neighbours and business security systems nothing is safe in today's society and obviously this includes Santa as well.
