Sudell Primary School in Darwen will be celebrating 100 years of Educating Darwens youngsters next year and plans for this celebration are underway. The school would like to hear from past students who attended Sudell School, to get intouch and share your experience of school life at Sudell. During its long history Sudell school has been a boys secondary school and also a junior school before the leaving age was raised. Excellent Turnout for Local History! 6:13pm Tue 6 May 08 Despite some incorrect advertising (it worked to our advantage Nafeesha, Thanks) with regards the Graveyard Survey classes Darwen Local History Society had a successful April meeting with an attendance of 75 people, an excellent turnout. Thanks to everyone who attended.
Where are Darwen’s historical documents? 5:19pm Sun 4 May 08 As reported in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph in December 2006, Darwen documents had been abandoned, covered in asbestos dust under Darwen Town Hall.
Celebrating Volunteers 1:38pm Wed 30 Apr 08 A Celebration Event is to be held commemorating Volunteers Week.
The Event will provide an opportunity for groups who use volunteers to get recognition for themselves and for their volunteers.

Making Headway 12:11pm Tue 22 Apr 08 Headway East Lancashire, a local support group for parents, carers and survivors of brain injury, are holding their Annual General Meeting this week.
The group, founded four years ago and serving local people primarily in Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley, will be meeting at Crosshill eLearning Centre on Shadsworth Road in Blackburn this Thursday, 24th April, commencing at 7pm.

Blackburn with Darwen V Project takes the place of the former Millennium Volunteers initiative.

Darwen Local History Society members visit 'Roman Altar' 9:06pm Sat 12 Apr 08 Members from Darwen Local History Society visited Manchester today to view the 2,000yr old 'Roman Altar' discovered in March by Manchester archaeologist Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd on the site of former Tom Garner Motors'

Do you know about all the activities and events that go on at the Sudellside Community Centre? Do you want to know? If you do, come along to the Sudellside Community Association's SPRING FLING this coming Sunday, April 6th 2008 from 1-4 pm. This Celebration of Sudell, following the Royds report and threatened closure of this community centre, will be an opportunity for the community to come together. The threat of closure may have now passed but the community is not sitting on its laurels but instead striving to be a community to be proud of.

But is it spring or winter? Mayhaps the weather be confused? Or betwixt seasons, when the weather is 'unsettled' or the changing of the seasons from one to the other. Winter's last 'shout?' Before rushing into spring. Kind of a 'weather lag,' then? Catch my drift? Pun intentional.

While it is true that there is no such thing as a free lunch, there is such a thing as a reasonably priced lunch in amenable company. Seniors aged over 50 are welcome to come and enjoy a 3 course lunch for £2 every Thursday lunch time at Sudellside Community Centre at 12.15 pm, and having had your lunch, how about joining the seniors social club for a game of bingo or raffle or whatever activity is scheduled for that week which is also held from 1.15pm at the Community Centre in Sudellside. Whilst doing research for the local history society you often come across some interesting but pretty usless information, but with this mornings earthmoving experience the usless info then becomes quite exciting!
The times for the next Pact meeting for Darwen Central and Belgrave areas are 5:30pm till 6:30pm on Monday 10th March 2008, at Knott St Community Centre, Knott St, Darwen.
On Monday the 18th Darwen Local History Society was host to Norman Redhead, the County Archaeologist from Manchester University when he gave his presentation on Community Digs'.
Had Charles Dickens been alive now, instead of being born into the Victorian era, he may have found rich pickings of prose alive and well in a small corner pocket of Lancashire called 'Darwen' or 'Darren' as some know it better.
DLHS have been awarded £4,500 towards their community dig scheduled for 2009. Dig Darwen' project has been Part funded by Blackburn with Darwen Council and European Regional Development Fund, the money is to go towards the desk assessment which will be completed by Manchester University later this year.
