On Monday 7th April a group of ten youths aged between 10-15 years carried out the Pendle Hill Challenge supported by members of the Burnley Wood Community Action Group(B.W.C.A.G) and members of the Neighbourhood Policing Team(N.P.T). The Group consisted of: Colleen Evans, Dionne Hutchinson, Rosie Moat, Shannon Rickwood, Simone Scrace, Callam Grant, Ethan Carroll, Nathan Evans, Wayne Harrison, Zack Cawtherley. Elley Evans and Lynn Fogarty from B.W.C.A.G. P.C.S.O Bill Ogden, P.C.S.O Catherine Clough, P.C John Fisher from our Neighbourhood Policing Team.
The aim of the challenge was to take youths away from the streets of Burnley Wood during the Half-Term Break and give them the opportunity to do something constructive with their time and take the opportunity to raise sponsorship on behalf of Pendleside Hospice.
The night before, Pendle Hill and the surrounding area had seen a good covering of snow. However this was not to deter the youths from completing their task.Bearing in mind the mixed ability of the group and the age range , the youngest being 10 years old, the oldest a considerable number of years senior all set out together and arrived at the summit together. Although extremely windy weather was more suiting a crisp winter morning rather than an early spring morning. The group stopped for a photo call at the Trig Point followed by a break to consume their pack lunches and admire the views before tackling the decent back to Barley Picnic Car Park to meet the minibus for the return journey to Burnley Wood. All who started completed the 6 mile challenge all that is required now is to collect the pledges and present a cheque to Pendleside Hospice.
In a time when the youths are often criticised for hanging about on the streets and doing nothing it was refreshing site to see the youths to do so well and they all desserve a WELL DONE!
There will be a follow up to this to let you know just how much was raised from this challenge.
