Dall St. Res. Assoc. alongside Burnley Borough Council that kindly provided the Community Skip for the Burnley Wood residents to utilise had a very successful morning on Saturday 15th March.
The skip was delivered around 9am and the constant stream of residents many on foot, others in cars came to dispose of their domestic household rubbish legally basically from the time the skip was dropped.
The size of the skip was a real surprise, we all thought it maybe just the normal size builders Yellow type.. Ohh NO... it was Mega Massive, the type that has to be winched onto the skip wagon, we could have driven a few cars inside it, it was that large :0)
It was MAGIC to see the people coming along bringing their children to help, walking down with arms full of their rubbish they wanted shut of. Not one person brought articles that they shouldn't have, (i.e white goods) and all that used the skip, respected the site and others that were using the skip, it was an 100% pro-active project from all that was involved.
The skip was marshalled through-out the three hour period it was booked for, with several members of the public staying to help residents that were in need of help to get their rubbish into the skip.
It was a pleasant surprise to see Burnley Woods new Neighbourhood Manager in attendance, (whom came in her own free time, as Elaine does not actually start her new position until the end of this month) many thanks Elaine for your commitment to Burnley Wood and its residents. And a further thanks goes to Martyn for coming along to catch some photos of the residents utilising the skip.
As the skip project was a massive success and well respected, I am hoping that Burnley Council, will allow our Assoc. to access the Community Skip on a monthly basis, I've emailed the depts at the Council, to ask if this would be possible. Here's hoping.
