Blackburn's top Tae Kwon Do school has continued it's 100% success rate at black belt gradings after the latest students achieved top marks.
Emma Llewellyn, 24, and Fransisca Davies, 22, were among the best performers amid the 600+ candidates from all over the UK who attended the grading, which was held over a four-day period at the headquarters of the Tae Kwon Do Association of Great Britain located in Bristol.
The testing process consisted of executing martial arts movements with an emphasis on technique and accuracy, as well as patterns and sparring. Candidates also had to answer difficult questions based on Tae Kwon Do theory and Korean terminology.
The grading panel consisted of the eight members of the TAGB Senior Committee, all of whom are 7th Dan black belts and among the best and most experienced Tae Kwon Do practitioners in the world.
Emma and Fransisca passed with flying colours, with Emma demonstrating perfect skill and Fransisca even being short-listed to the final two students who would be selected for the Best at Grading award.
Their instructor, Mike Haines (3rd Dan) had this to say:
"Passing this grading was no easy feat. On average more than 90% of students who start martial arts never make it this far. Even then, there is a high percentage of students who fail the black belt grading. There are schools and associations who give out black belts like they mean nothing, but at Daehan School of Tae Kwon Do and within the TAGB, the black belt remains a symbol of hard work, perseverance and indomitable spirit. Emma and Fran have done an outstanding job and they have made everyone very proud."
