Refugees from 9 different countries, who have settled and made lives for themselves in East Lancashire, are being awarded certificates this week at the Bank Top Access Point.
The celebration, which is taking place on Wednesday 27 February, is to acknowledge their individual successes in completing English courses run by Blackburn with Darwen's Lifelong Learning department.
The recipients of the certificates hail from all over the world - this group represents Cameroon, Burma, India, Pakistan, Iran, Congo, Afghanistan, Poland and Iran.

During the day's celebrations, which begin at 4pm and run through until 6.30pm, there will be testimonials by two of the course's attendees. Florentin Boudjeko from Cameroon and Aung Kaung Myat from Burma will be discussing how particpation in the course has helped to change their lives for the better. Myat is now training to be a computer engineer and Boudjeko has set up his own salsa class at Darwen Community Centre.
There will also be some traditional African dance and music provided by Calude Pappy Nteye from Burundi.
The efforts of these people should be recognised as a positive step towards integration and harmony in Blackburn between the various ethnic groups.
