England began their much-anticipated new era by handing Harry Gurney an international debut against Scotland in Aberdeen.

The left-arm seamer was included in a team which was missing Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali from the 13-man squad for the first match under the captain-coach axis of Alastair Cook and Peter Moores.

In a one-day international fixture delayed until 4pm and reduced to 23-overs-per-side by rain, Scotland won the toss and put England into bat first.

The hosts left out Safyaan Sharif and Freddie Coleman from their initial squad.
