Harry Hill is in talks to return to ITV after his X-Factor inspired musical flopped in the West End.
The spoof show I Can't Sing!, which the comic wrote, closed on May 10 just six weeks and three days after opening.
ITV boss Peter Fincham told the Broadcasting Press Guild that the broadcaster had "been in constant talks" with Hill.
Fincham, who ruled out a return for the popular TV Burp show, said : "H e did a live tour, then he did a film, then he did the musical and we're now talking to him.
"I haven't got anything specific to say but I hope very soon we will have."
Hill's musical was plagued by problems from the start, with p review performances at the London Palladium postponed twice in a week with producers citing technical problems.
The s tory of a young woman who lives in a caravan with a talking dog and finds fame on the talent show starred f ormer EastEnders actor Nigel Harman as a Simon Cowell-style svengali with other characters based on X Factor regulars such as Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh.
