Jennifer Connelly has admitted being directed by husband Paul Bettany in new film Shelter was an incredibly intimate experience.
The British actor is making his directorial debut with the drama he wrote himself, about two homeless people who fall in love on the streets of New York.
Jennifer plays his leading lady, and admitted it made a real difference to have such a close relationship with her director.
She said: "It was spectacular. I've never worked with someone with whom I've had that degree of intimacy with, obviously.
"It was pretty extraordinary, I think especially given the subject matter, it was really wonderful to have that sense of complete trust and safety."
She added: "I thought he wrote a beautiful script and just did an extraordinary job directing it, I'm really excited about it."
Jennifer and Paul met when they starred together in Oscar-winning film A Beautiful Mind in 2001. They married in 2003 and live with their two children, as well as Jennifer's son from a previous relationship.
